Itinerary

Day One: Succumb to the beckoning of the quiet splendor of New England. Come to where the old thrives with the new – rich in history and tradition. Begin your journey to a time gone by with arrival in historic “Bean Town,” Boston, Massachusetts. Travel through the advances of the Twentieth Century to the peaceful rural elegance of your country getaway in central New Hampshire. This afternoon we will check into our Inn where we will stay for the next two evenings allowing time to settle in and enjoy all the charm and ambiance that awaits us. (D)

Day Two: Wake up to a fresh new day in your mountain surroundings. Our day will be spent traveling through the lakes region of New Hampshire. Our tour includes a drive along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in the state. Winnipesaukee translates from its Native American to "Beautiful Place in High Waters," which it truly is. We will view Squam Lake, the setting for the movie 'On Golden Pond' and popular for its Loon population. We will then drive through the lake country of New Hampshire with its majestic pines, on our way to the White Mountains. The most spectacular feature of the White Mountains is Mt. Washington at 6,288' and known for some of the worst weather in the world. During fall foliage season the mountains are ablaze with yellows, oranges, and reds. We will then ride to the top of Cannon Mountain on the first aerial passenger tramway in North America for a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. (B, D)

Day Three: This morning we will travel the rural roads in New Hampshire and dip in and out of the past. We will travel through the Green Mountains of Vermont to Stowe stopping at Cold Hollow Cider Mill; New England’s most famous cider mill. We will observe apple cider being made and perhaps even have the chance to taste the final product! We will tour world famous Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. We will see first hand the entire ice cream manufacturing process from Cow to Cone. We will enjoy time to explore the lovely village of Stowe. Tonight we will feel as though we have come home! The lovely Inn that we will call home for the next two evenings offers an atmosphere unique. (B, D)

Day Four: Our journey today begins with Quechee Gorge, Vermont's "little Grand Canyon" to take pictures. Then we will visit the village of Woodstock, noted for its well-preserved vintage homes, its village green and covered bridge in the middle of town. We will be mesmerized by the panorama as we wind past perfectly restored historic buildings and homes open to the sprawling Woodstock Village Green. Woodstock treasures include the 200-year old Woodstock Inn, the Billings Farm & Museum and the Covered Bridge. Indulge with a stroll around the Green, through the Covered Bridge, browse the mecca of quaint shops and galleries - let our senses be aroused in this quintessential New England village. Then it’s on to Plymouth Union, the birthplace of President Calvin Coolidge, considered to be the best preserved presidential birthplace in the nation. Visit the old general store, the old Union Church, Wilder Barn or Plymouth Cheese Factory built in 1890 by his father. Not just a summer White House, this was the family homestead, as he and six generations of his family are all buried nearby. Dinner is planned for us before retiring for the night. (B, D)

Day Five: This morning we depart our lovely accommodations to travel along one of the most scenic routes in America, Vermont’s Route 100. Stopping along the way we will enjoy Weston, home of the Vermont Country Store, where we will find items we thought had long since disappeared, such as, penny candy and flour sack towels, as well as many other useful, practical items and artifacts from the past. It is like shopping in a museum. There is also the Weston Playhouse, once an old church, transformed into an up-to-date theatre on the green. The elegant Greek Revival building is considered one of America’s most beautiful playhouses. Take time to visit and see all the famous actors who have performed here! Our travels then will take us to Western Massachusetts. This area offers a kaleidoscope of wonderful things to see and do; world-class festivals of music and dance; rare works in fine museums; Colonial and Victorian historic sites; lush gardens; Towns and villages straight from the greeting cards of “Currier & Ives”. And we will spend the next two days experiencing this wonderful diversity. For the next two nights, we will enjoy the old-fashioned hospitality, charm and cuisine of our Inn. (B, D)

Day Six: After a restful night, we will begin our Berkshire touring with a visit to the Norman Rockwell Museum housing not only the artist’s studio, as he left it, but the world’s largest collection of America’s most beloved artists’ work. We can stroll along the picturesque Main Street of Stockbridge, home of the famed Red Lion Inn, originally founded as the Inn at the Sign of the Red Lion in 1773. Originally a stagecoach stop and pre-Revolutionary meeting place, its famous front porch beckons visitors to sit, sip and people watch. We will then set out to explore the breathtaking Berkshires, home of Tanglewood and summer performances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. We will travel through Old Deerfield, a 300-year old village and a National Historic Landmark. Old Deerfield graciously intertwines rural past with the present. And, of course, no visit is complete without visiting Yankee Candle and dipping your own candle as a souvenir.

Day Seven: Today we travel to our late afternoon flight home, reminiscing on our time in New England where we have stepped back in time. . where time itself stood still. (B)

Fall Foliage... Just saying it makes nearly everyone think of New England. This tour features New England in the peak foliage period in all of its splendid brilliance.
