Maritime Breeze (7 Day)

Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia

HCI Exclusive - Taste of the AtlanticDay One:  Halifax
As we fly into Nova Scotia’s Capital City, Halifax, we will begin our journey that will take us to the treasures of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton and New Brunswick. We will be greeted by our Tour Guide and deluxe motorcoach and once our baggage has been placed on the coach we will transfer to our hotel in Halifax where we will stay for two nights.

Day Two:  Halifax  (B, D)
This morning we will enjoy breakfast in the tranquil and picturesque village of Peggy's Cove.  Huge granite boulders are scattered throughout this quaint fishing village, which makes this destination a well-known place for tourists, artists and photographers.  Peggy's Cove Light, an old lighthouse standing on a massive granite ledge, serves as Canada's only post office located in a lighthouse. When we return to Halifax we will visit the Maritime Museum. This museum in right in the Historic Properties along the waterfront and gives a great history of the region and the nation with a terrific exhibit on the Titanic.  We will have time to enjoy lunch on our own along the waterfront.   This afternoon we will enjoy a city tour of Halifax beginning with the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, one of the most famous Canadian cemeteries. In addition to many of the city's business and cultural elite, as well as many victims of the Halifax Explosion, Fairview Cemetery contains the largest number of graves in the world from the sinking of the Titanic. The cemetery contains the graves of 121 Titanic victims, several of whom have never been identified. Afterwards we will enjoy a visit to the Halifax Public Gardens, the oldest and finest formal Victorian garden in North America.  This 17-acre garden began as a private garden in 1753 with its present layout being completed in 1875 by the designer Richard Power, the former gardener to the Duke of Devonshire in Ireland.  This evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner downtown.

Day Three: PEI  (B, Lobster D)
This morning we will pack our bags, enjoy breakfast and board the motorcoach for the next part of our journey.  We will cross into Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. Upon arrival, we will visit the legendary home of Anne of Green Gables.  This famous novel was written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, a native of the island and has become the symbol of Prince Edward Island. The home that inspired the Green Gables setting has been carefully maintained in the 1800's style, and is staffed with knowledgeable guides. We will also make a stop at the PEI Preserve Company, where we will see, smell and taste Canada’s finest preserves being prepared. This evening a delicious Lobster dinner awaits us.

Day Four: PEI  (B)
Today after breakfast we will head over to Charlottetown, where we will tour Province House, the home of the Provincial Legislature and host of the historical 1864 Charlottetown Conference.  Next, it’s on to Founders’ Hall – Canada’s Birthplace Pavilion, a new heritage attraction and retail boutique that tells the story of Canada from its inception in 1864 up until modern day. We will enjoy lunch on our own in Charlottetown and continue with a city tour, after which we will get a chance to spend a free afternoon to shop and enjoy the sights. We will have time to relax at our hotel and enjoy dinner on our own.

Day Five: New Brunswick  (B, D)
This morning we will pack our bags, enjoy breakfast and board the motorcoach for the next part of our journey.  We will travel across the Confederation Bridge into New Brunswick, Canada's only officially bilingual province. Upon arrival in New Brunswick, we will journey to the site of the Hopewell Rocks  where 50-foot tides have carved the world’s largest “flowerpots” out of the cliffs. Nowhere else on earth are the tides as high as in the Bay of Fundy and we will return home with incredible pictures and memories of this experience! We will visit the Fundy National Park on our way to Saint John, where we will stay for one night. We will tour the city and visit the spectacle of the Reversing Falls, which takes place just before the St. John River enters the Bay of Fundy. The Reversing Falls are caused when the river has to pass through a narrow gorge and by the huge rise and fall of the tides in the Bay of Fundy. Dinner is prepared for us tonight.

Day Six: Halifax (B, D)
Today we will catch the Digby Ferry and head across to Digby, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival, we will travel the Evangeline Trail heading to Grand Pre National Historic Site where the Memorial Church, a stone structure of French design, stands as a memorial to the Acadians and houses an exhibit on the deportation of these people. This story has been immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem “Evangeline,” for which stands a statue in the middle of this 20-acre garden. This evening we will enjoy our farewell dinner at a local restaurant in Halifax.

Day Seven: Home (B)
It is time to bid farewell to the Canadian Maritimes!  We will head to Halifax airport to catch our flight home taking with us many fond memories of our Maritime experience.
