Day One: Thursday, August 22: Halifax, Nova Scotia (D)
We will depart in the morning by motorcoach to catch a flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia and begin our Maritime Magic Tour. Arrive in Nova Scotia’s seaport capital, Halifax. The heart of Halifax is perfect for exploring, with tree-lined streets, international restaurants, sidewalk cafes, galleries and museums. The world’s second largest natural harbor creates a wonderful backdrop to enjoy Halifax. Ships come to this harbor from every corner of the globe. Upon arrival in Halifax will have a city tour including a walk of the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, one of the most famous Canadian cemeteries. In addition to many of the city's business and cultural elite, as well as many victims of the Halifax Explosion, Fairview Cemetery contains the largest number of graves in the world from the sinking of the Titanic. The cemetery contains the graves of 121 Titanic victims, several of whom have never been identified. We will check into our Halifax hotel for two nights and enjoy dinner together.
Day Two: Friday, August 23: Peggy’s Cove and Halifax (B, D)
This morning, following breakfast, we will travel to the tranquil and picturesque village of Peggy's Cove. Huge granite boulders are scattered throughout this quaint fishing village, which makes this destination a well-known place for tourists, artists and photographers. Peggy's Cove Light, an old lighthouse standing on a massive granite ledge, once served as Canada's only post office located in a lighthouse. We will have lunch on our own. Then this afternoon, we will have free time to explore Halifax and have a choice to visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic or the Halifax Public Gardens or the Citadel Fortress Historic Site:
This evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner in Halifax.
Day Three: Saturday, August 24: Halifax to PEI (B, D)
Following breakfast at the hotel, we will depart Nova Scotia for Prince Edward Island. We will take the ferry across the Northumberland Strait, which has the warmest waters north of Virginia. Once we arrive on PEI, we will visit Point Prim Lighthouse for a spectacular view across the Northumberland Strait to Nova Scotia. Then we head into Charlottetown for an afternoon tour. You will learn what makes this capital city such an historic gem. And, you’ll see why it’s also a vibrant urban centre that dances to a beat all its own. Canada was born (or perhaps more accurately, was conceived) here when the Fathers of Confederation met at Province House in 1864 to plot out the creation of Canada as a nation independent of Britain. We will check into our PEI hotel for two nights. Dinner is included this evening.
Day Four: Sunday, August 25: Prince Edward Island (PEI) (B, D)
Today, after breakfast, we will enjoy a full day on this delightful island experiencing all the things residents and visitors alike find so endearing. We will begin with a unique visit to PEI Island Flconry, where we will experience magnificent birds of prey under the direction of their falconer. We will learn the life of a falconer and watch them soar, hunt and return across a large farm meadow, where they live. Later, we will enjoy “Anne’s Land,” including a visit to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company, one of the most popular stops in Prince Edward Island, the beautiful setting alone will impress you. We will have time for lunch on our own here. Over the last century, millions of readers from around the world have come to know and love Anne of Green Gables™, and Prince Edward Island is where devotees come to celebrate her. Those who love the books or the TV miniseries make their way to Green Gables in pilgrimage-like fashion to visit the many sites that pay tribute to their favourite red-haired heroine and her creator, Lucy Maud Montgomery. While Anne may be the principal attraction for many, Green Gables Shore has more beauty and mystique up its sleeve. This evening we will enjoy a dinner in Charlottetown.
Day Five: Monday, August 26: The Acadian Coast, New Brunswick (B, Lobster D)
Following breakfast this morning we will cross the incredible Confederation Bridge, which spans 9 miles of the Northumberland Strait and connects PEI to New Brunswick. Once in New Brunswick, we will spend the day along the Acadian Coastline to experience a recreated Acadian village and enjoy a kitchen party at Le Pays de la Sagouine with lunch on our own. We will then head to the resort town of Shediac, New Brunswick, “lobster capital of the world”. Group photo opportunity with the largest lobster in the world! Our friends at Shediac Bay Cruises will take us on a memorable 2 ½ hour educational Lobster cruise. “Lobstertales,” as they are locally known, offers the most experiential and educational lobster stop anywhere! Get up close and personal with Captain Ron Cormier, help the crew pull in traps, hear the history and significance of lobster fishing in the region, then learn how to cook, crack and eat your lobster - the New Brunswick way! (BBQ chicken and vegetarian substitutes offered). We will then check into our Moncton hotel for one night.
Day Six: Tuesday, August 27: Hopewell Rocks and Saint John (B)
We leave Moncton today for Saint John. However, we start the day with one of the greatest highlights of the entire tour and the Maritime’s most famous geological feature - The Hopewell Rocks, in the Bay of Fundy. Here you will walk on the ocean floor at low tide, and learn about the region’s natural history. You’ll be sure to discover why it was voted one of the two North American finalists in a global competition to choose the world’s top natural wonders, in good company with the Grand Canyon! This is fitting, as the 100 billion tons of sea water that flow in and out of the Bay of Fundy twice a day, every day of the year, and rise an incredible 50 feet, could fill the Grand Canyon! We will then travel along the Bay of Fundy on the very new Fundy Trail Parkway. Opened in 2022 it wends its way up and down the rocky coast line with the most spectacular views of the Bay of Fundy. Then it is on to Saint John. We will witness the Reversing Rapids, where the tremendous tides of the Bay of Fundy are so powerful they force the mighty Saint John River to flow back up stream. We will check into our Saint John hotel for one night. Dinner is on our own this evening.
Day Seven: Wednesday, August 28: Evangeline Trail, Nova Scotia (B, D)
This morning breakfast is included. We will head to the ferry terminal in Saint John for our crossing of the Bay of Fundy to Nova Scotia. Then we travel along the Evangeline Trail, made famous by Longfellow's poem of the same name. It tells the story of the mass deportation of the Acadian people in the mid 1700's as the British exiled all French speaking people from Nova Scotia. We will have lunch on our own in the tiny fishing village of Halls Harbour at the Halls Harbour Lobster Pound. This afternoon we visit the Grand Pre National Historic Site which tells the deportation story vividly. This evening we will check into our hotel in Halifax for our Final Night and enjoy a farewell dinner together.
